Scars

Scars are areas of skin that suffer an injury and form fibrous tissue. This is a type of wound repair and is a natural component of the healing process following tissue damage. There are many types of scars but the most common types are:

  • Hypertrophic Scars: excess scar formation, raised lump/scar
  • Keloid: A serious form of hypertrophic scar/excess scar formation, most common with dark-skinned people, tend to be located on shoulders and chest
  • Atrophic Scars: Sunken area of skin, pitted appearance; common with acne, chickenpox, infection
  • Stretch Marks: Caused by rapid stretching of the skin; genetics, puberty (rapid growth or muscle building), pregnancy (75-90% of women), hormonal changes, and weight gain

Scars can affect quality of life, mobility, and be a source of insecurity. As an alternative to surgical scar removal, the professionals at Radiance are proud to offer the latest in laser technology to minimize scars. The Palomar Icon is the most advanced laser available today with the ability to decrease scars, improve their appearance, and trigger new collagen formation. The Palomar Icon is efficient, comfortable, and effective and is appropriate for all skin types. There is minimal to no downtime.

MEDICATIONS TO AVOID PRIOR TO TREATMENT:

Please discuss with us your exact medication list – be sure to mention if you are taking any antibiotics. Please let us know if you have a condition known as porphyria (a condition that causes sensitivity to light). Photo sensitizing medications should be avoided prior to treatment.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS:
