Enjoy an Educational Piece on Laser Hair Removal!

On behalf of Teleos Plastic Surgery & Radiance MedSpa, please enjoy this informational article written by Shannon Bell, Registered Nurse, Master of Science in Nursing, Adult Nurse Practitioner.

Laser hair removal is an excellent way to reduce unwanted hairs. At our two locations of Radiance MedSpa – La Canada and Pasadena, we have the Palomar ICON (LaCanada) and the Palomar Vectus & Palomar ICON (Pasadena) lasers that provide fast, comfortable, and efficient treatments.

On average, 5-7 treatments, separated every 4-6 weeks are needed to target all the hair follicles. Before you start your treatments and between each subsequent treatment, we ask that you avoid tweezing, waxing, chemical peels or retinols to the areas being treated. To expedite your treatment, please shave the area being treated the day before your appointment. You should also wear a quality sun block and avoid direct sun exposure.

The treatment itself is often described as a “rubber band snapping sensation.” Afterwards, your skin may be slightly pink and may feel like a mild sunburn. Typically, the redness resolves within hours, but it can last for a few days.

After one treatment, you can see a reduction in your hair growth. However, subsequent treatments are necessary to treat all the hair follicles since the follicles are not active at the same time. It is also important to note that the laser energy is attracted to the melanin or color in your hair shaft. Therefore, it is more effective towards darker hairs, less effective toward light-colored hairs, and not too effective for “peach fuzz.”

We at Radiance MedSpa provide the latest, most state-of-the-art lasers for you to obtain effective care.
