Dr. Lehfeldt Recently Served as an Expert Panelist for a Discussion on CoolSculpting®

The company behind CoolSculpting® recently sponsored a discussion about the state-of-the-art, non-surgical fat reduction procedure and our own Dr. Max Lehfeldt was invited to be one of the featured expert panelists! Held on May 19th at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, Dr. Lehfeldt joined other healthcare professionals to lead a comprehensive discussion focusing on a number of different aspects of CoolSculpting®, which is becoming one of the most popular treatments available. In fact, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that, in 2017, non-surgical fat reduction was in the top five most frequently performed non-surgical procedures for both men and women. With CoolSculpting®’s ability to serve as a liposuction alternative for patients with mild to moderate levels of excess fat in a variety of body areas, the procedure is a prominent member of that group.

Dr. Lehfeldt is both proud and honored to be on the CoolSculpting® panel of experts, and is excited to continue offering this innovative procedure here at Radiance Spa Medical Group. Our practice utilizes many of the advanced CoolSculpting® handpieces, including the CoolMini™ for a “double-chin,” which enables us to help reduce excess fat from several areas of the body without the need for surgical intervention. Surgical Facelift and Non-Surgical Liquid Facelift: Medical Spa in Pasadena Area Compares the Benefits

Pasadena Plastic Surgeon Discusses Surgical and Non Surgical Facelift.

Dr. Max Lehfeldt with Radiance Spa Medical Group and Teleos Plastic Surgery contrasts the benefits and drawbacks of facelift surgery and the non-surgical Liquid Facelift.

Pasadena, CA—Facial rejuvenation procedures come in many varieties, explains Dr. Max Lehfeldt, a Pasadena plastic surgeon. He says that both surgical and non-surgical treatments are available to help reduce common signs of aging; however, the best option for patients will ultimately depend on their unique needs and goals. Dr. Lehfeldt says two of the most popular approaches, facelift surgery and the non-surgical Liquid Facelift, each have distinct advantages that can help patients renew their appearance with natural-looking results.

Rhytidectomy, which is the medical term for facelift surgery, can provide significant improvement of deep wrinkles and excess skin appearing on the lower areas of the face. As a major surgical procedure, Dr. Lehfeldt notes that this method will require more downtime than a non-surgical treatment, which may be a factor for patients who are looking for less invasive options that will not necessitate a lengthy healing process. With that in mind, Dr. Lehfeldt says a surgical facelift procedure can be more beneficial for patients who have more severe signs of facial aging and for those who want more long-term results.

By contrast, Dr. Lehfeldt says, a Liquid Facelift will be a less invasive procedure and typically requires little to no downtime. The Liquid Facelift technique utilizes cosmetic injectables and advanced dermal fillers such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, or other options to reduce signs of age in targeted areas of the face. Each formula, he clarifies, is designed to provide a unique benefit. For instance: BOTOX® injections can reduce lines around the eyes and forehead, while a dermal filler such as JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC can add volume to the cheeks and enhance the mid-facial area.

Broadly speaking, minimally invasive facial rejuvenation is designed to reduce lines, add volume to facial features such as the lips and cheeks and enhance the contours of the face. That said, Dr. Lehfeldt emphasizes that this approach cannot eliminate excess skin or offer the same results as a surgical facelift. Dr. Lehfeldt also notes that the effects of a Liquid Facelift will not last as long as a surgical facelift, although they can be extended with occasional follow-up treatment sessions. He typically recommends the Liquid Facelift for patients who are seeking treatments that offer minimal downtime, are experiencing only mild to moderate signs of facial aging, and/or have an aversion to undergoing surgery.

For patients who would benefit more from a full surgical procedure, Dr. Lehfeldt says it can even be advantageous for some individuals to have dermal fillers or other injectable treatments as well since they can enhance the outcome to an even greater degree. Ultimately, Dr. Lehfeldt encourages those considering any type of cosmetic enhancement to talk about their cosmetic goals and be sure all of their concerns are addressed during their initial consultation. He says a thorough discussion and evaluation with an experienced and qualified medical professional is of paramount importance before undergoing surgical or non-surgical treatment, and patients should always be sure they feel comfortable and confident in the hands of the person they choose to perform their procedure.

SculpSure™ – Pasadena and La Cañada Plastic Surgeon Discusses the Latest Non-Surgical Option for Fat Reduction

sculpsure,fat,removal,liposuction,pasadena,la canada,plastic surgeon,dr max lehfeldt,radiance spa

Dr. Max Lehfeldt of Radiance Spa Medical Group and Teleos Plastic Surgery says the new SculpSure™ laser lipolysis procedure can help patients reduce stubborn excess fat without the need for surgery or excessive downtime.

Pasadena, CA – Many individuals, even those of a healthy weight for their size, have trouble reducing pockets of excess fat in certain body areas. Dr. Max Lehfeldt, a Pasadena plastic surgeon with Radiance Spa Medical Group and Teleos Plastic Surgery, says the most rigorous diet and exercise routines can simply be ineffective for localized fat deposits in many cases. While traditional liposuction surgery has often been the best way to reduce excess fat and renew the body’s contours, Dr. Lehfeldt says a new procedure recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration can help some patients achieve their goals without invasive surgery or excessive recovery time.

SculpSure™ is a new fat reduction treatment option developed by Cynosure® – a leading manufacturer of light-based cosmetic enhancement techniques. Dr. Lehfeldt says SculpSure™ is a laser lipolysis procedure designed to gently heat excess fat cells in areas such as the abdomen and love handles. Once the targeted fat cells have been destroyed, he says they will gradually be filtered out of the body via natural processes over the next several weeks. There are no incisions and no general anesthesia necessary for the treatment. Dr. Lehfeldt notes that SculpSure™ can be performed as an in-office treatment and the procedure typically takes no longer than 25 minutes to complete. He says most patients do not experience significant discomfort, and they can spend the time during treatment reading a book or listening to music.

According to Cynosure®, SculpSure™ has been shown to have achieved a 90% satisfaction rate among patients and a 24% average rate of fat reduction in the treated areas. Dr. Lehfeldt says, while some patients may need two separate SculpSure™ treatment sessions to achieve optimal results, many people require only a single treatment to meet their goals. He notes that, while liposuction may be a better option for those who have larger areas of excess fat, SculpSure™ can serve as an alternative for people who may not need surgery to achieve significant results. Dr. Lehfeldt says individuals who are considering SculpSure™ or other procedures to reduce excess fat should be sure to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who will go over all of their options and help them determine the best treatment for their needs.

Enjoy an Educational Piece on Laser Hair Removal!

On behalf of Teleos Plastic Surgery & Radiance MedSpa, please enjoy this informational article written by Shannon Bell, Registered Nurse, Master of Science in Nursing, Adult Nurse Practitioner.

Laser hair removal is an excellent way to reduce unwanted hairs. At our two locations of Radiance MedSpa – La Canada and Pasadena, we have the Palomar ICON (LaCanada) and the Palomar Vectus & Palomar ICON (Pasadena) lasers that provide fast, comfortable, and efficient treatments.

On average, 5-7 treatments, separated every 4-6 weeks are needed to target all the hair follicles. Before you start your treatments and between each subsequent treatment, we ask that you avoid tweezing, waxing, chemical peels or retinols to the areas being treated. To expedite your treatment, please shave the area being treated the day before your appointment. You should also wear a quality sun block and avoid direct sun exposure.

The treatment itself is often described as a “rubber band snapping sensation.” Afterwards, your skin may be slightly pink and may feel like a mild sunburn. Typically, the redness resolves within hours, but it can last for a few days.

After one treatment, you can see a reduction in your hair growth. However, subsequent treatments are necessary to treat all the hair follicles since the follicles are not active at the same time. It is also important to note that the laser energy is attracted to the melanin or color in your hair shaft. Therefore, it is more effective towards darker hairs, less effective toward light-colored hairs, and not too effective for “peach fuzz.”

We at Radiance MedSpa provide the latest, most state-of-the-art lasers for you to obtain effective care.

If you would like a free consultation regarding laser hair removal or any of our other great services, please contact us today! We look forward to serving you!

PhotoFacials – Rejuvenating Skin Without Surgery!

On behalf of Teleos Plastic Surgery & Radiance MedSpa, please enjoy this informational article written by Gigi Schlueter, Registered Nurse, Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner.

IPL BnAPhotofacials are often overlooked and undervalued, but they are fabulous treatments!  Photofacial, also called IPL, or “Intense Pulsed Light”, is a light-based device used for skin rejuvenation.  It has been shown to help improve the appearance of broken capillaries and brown skin discolorations, as well as to tighten and refine the appearance of the skin.

Most patients report positive results after the first treatment: some are immediate; some results take a few days.  Studies indicate 90% of Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation patients have a high degree of overall satisfaction with the results, which are long lasting with continued use of sunscreen.

After the first Photofacial treatment, skin will already feel smoother.  Like other laser-based procedures, Photofacial’s light beam typically feels like a rubber band snapping against the skin.  After treatments, pain is reported as either very mild or nonexistent.  Photofacial is a low risk, nonsurgical procedure with clinical results.  A Photofacial package can rejuvenate your skin and make you feel years younger.

Given that there is little damage to the skin surface, several treatments may be required to see the desired effect.  For best results, approximately 3-5 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart, are recommended.  The number of photofacials you will need will vary depending on the condition you’re treating, the results you want, and how your skin responds.  Side effects can include transient redness and increased or decreased pigment.

Please contact us for a complimentary skin analysis and Photofacial/IPL consultation.

ULTHERAPY – A Nonsurgical Skin Tightening Treatment

On behalf of Teleos Plastic Surgery & Radiance MedSpa, please enjoy this informational article written by Jennifer Ellis, Registered Nurse, Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Ultherapy BnAAs we age, the collagen in our skin weakens and elastin starts to break down, causing our skin to become more lax and loose.  Look to Ultherapy – focused ultrasound – to address these problems.

Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved NON-surgical and completely NON-invasive treatment to tighten AND lift the skin above the brow, on the mid-face, neck, and under the chin.  It also has received FDA-clearance in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles to the chest area.

Ultherapy is a one-time treatment for most patients (takes about an hour), using focused ultrasound to activate our fibroblast cells to create new collagen, resulting in a gradual, natural reduction of skin laxity pver a 6 month timeframe.  Ultrasound is a tried and true technology that has been safely used in medicine for over 50 years.  Ultherapy results typically lasts around 1 1/2 – 2 years, at which time another treatment would be recommended to maintain results and help slow down the rate of skin aging.

There are options with the Ultherapy treatment as well; one can do a full face, neck and chest treatment in one session, or a partial treatment to address specific areas of concern.  Specific issues addressed include lowered eyebrows and mild hooding of the eyelids.  In clinical studies, 89% of subjects had a significant brow lift after one Ultherapy treatment.  Also, mid-face issues such as downturned mouth, jowling, and loss of jaw line definition can be addressed, as well as neck firming and tightening including the submental, or “turkey neck” area under the chin.  Most recently, Ultherapy has been FDA-approved to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to the décolletage or chest area.

There are minimal side effects with Ultherapy including temporary redness, swelling, tingling, tenderness and rarely bruising or welting.  Most of these side effects fade in a matter of hours.  Please feel free to make an appointment with us for a complimentary consultation so we can discuss your treatment options to address your specific concerns.

Laser Tattoo Removal Device Offers Diverse Benefits States Pasadena Plastic Surgeon

plastic surgeon in Los Angeles, PicoSure, laser tattoo removal, med spa in Pasadena, Dr. Lehfeldt

Dr. Max Lehfeldt discusses how PicoSure™ technology can offer more effective tattoo removal and enhanced benefits in fewer treatments.

Pasadena, CA—Despite the continued popularity of tattoos, many individuals seek out tattoo removal procedures to help diminish signs of body art that has become undesirable, explains Los Angeles plastic surgeon Max Lehfeldt, MD. Laser technology has improved dramatically over the last few years, he affirms, and the latest advances allow patients the opportunity to reduce traditionally-resistant ink colors. PicoSure™, he announces, is the gold standard of laser tattoo removal technology.

Dr. Lehfeldt discusses how the rise in people getting tattoos has also led to a rise in people wanting to remove them. Changes in circumstances, he notes, often lead to the desire to erase the design or designs. He says some individuals may simply alter their opinion of the artwork over time, while others realize tattoos may limit particular career options. Regardless of the reasoning, more patients are developing a desire to remove the ink, he concludes.

To help patients become better informed about their options, Dr. Lehfeldt details the numerous benefits of PicoSure™. Explaining that it can offer more effective tattoo removal than many traditional thermal lasers, the Pasadena plastic surgeon indicates that the short energy pulses emitted by the device can help break up even stubborn green and blue inks—colors notoriously difficult to diminish—typically in less time and with potentially less risk of scarring than some alternative methods. Furthermore, he says fewer treatment sessions are generally necessary to clear the tattoo.

In addition to these reported benefits, Dr. Lehfeldt mentions that the PicoSure™ laser has an unexpected advantage many patients enjoy: skin enhancement. The laser can be customized to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, brown spots, acne scars, and sun damage. Though he admits many individuals are not seeking this particular effect, they are often delighted to discover the option.

Ultimately, Dr. Lehfeldt says he equips his medical spa with state-of-the-art technology so patients can more easily achieve their cosmetic goals. PicoSure™ laser tattoo removal, he explains, is designed to provide an abundance of benefits at a quality above and beyond the competition.

Pasadena Plastic Surgeon Details Benefits of Customized Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment

laser skin resurfacing, cosmetic surgeon in Pasadena, fractional CO2 laser, customized skin rejuvenation, Dr. Lehfeldt

Dr. Max Lehfeldt uses the innovative DEKA DOT Fractional CO2 Laser to tailor skin rejuvenation treatment to individual patient need with less downtime.

Pasadena, CALaser skin resurfacing, despite being a minimally-invasive therapy, used to entail long periods of healing, a painful treatment process, and a one-size-fits-most approach, explains Dr. Max Lehfeldt, a cosmetic surgeon in Pasadena. Today, fractional CO2 laser technology not only offers more versatile aesthetic enhancement, he says, but it also allows for more rapid recovery and reduced discomfort. As a result of these technological advancements, he says specialization has become essential to many patients who desire optimal results with fewer side effects.

Seeking to educate patients about the potential of fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, Dr. Lehfeldt recently published a blog post titled, “The New Standard: Benefits of Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing.” In it, he compares non-fractional and fractional laser technologies to emphasize the improvements now available. Due to these new benefits, the Pasadena plastic surgeon says, “The vast majority of patients prefer fractional CO2 resurfacing (along with doctors), and fractional CO2 has completely supplanted non-fractional CO2.”

To further underscore the advantages of customization, Dr. Lehfeldt released a follow-up blog post titled, “Customized Rejuvenation with the Fractional CO2 Laser.” In this entry, he details the ways his skincare practice offers an enhanced patient experience, including analyzing anatomic indicators, accommodating expressed goals, and explaining all risks and benefits before developing a personalized treatment plan. Additionally, he says he makes patient safety a priority by performing a “test spot” and pre-treating individuals who may be susceptible to pigment changes with lightening agents and Retin-A.

Ultimately, Dr. Lehfeldt believes that the combination of state-of-the-art technology and comprehensive customized patient care will help his patients achieve the best results possible. He recommends that individuals who are seeking treatment for fine lines, sun damage, and facial scarring consider non-surgical, fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing from a qualified and attentive cosmetic enhancement practice.

Pasadena Plastic Surgeon Offers CoolSculpting® for Nonsurgical Fat Reduction

Dr. Max Lehfeldt says this non-invasive body contouring technique can work as an alternative to surgical liposuction for patients with small areas of fat on their bodies.

pasadena plastic surgeon, coolsculpting, radiance spa medical group

Pasadena, CA — Max Lehfeldt, MD, FACS, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Pasadena and owner/medical director of Radiance Spa Medical Group, says CoolSculpting® is an innovative body contouring technique that can reduce small pockets of fat around the body while also minimizing risks, downtime, and costs often associated with surgical fat reduction. At his medical spa, Dr. Lehfeldt and his experienced team use CoolSculpting® to target fat in the following areas:

  • Abdomen
  • Inner Thighs
  • Outer Thighs
  • Love Handles
  • Upper Arms
  • Bra Roll
  • Back

Dr. Lehfeldt says while liposuction can be effective for dramatic fat removal, CoolSculpting® can be an alternative for patients who want to reduce a small amount of excess, stubborn fat without undergoing surgery. The FDA-cleared CoolSculpting® device works to target fat cells directly without damaging surrounding healthy tissue. In a process called cryolipolysis, the fat cells are cooled to the point that they crack and die. The destroyed fat cells are ultimately excreted from the body through natural processes. The Pasadena plastic surgeon says results from this procedure can generally be expected after eight weeks following treatment, adding that some patients may benefit from multiple treatments of the same area spaced about eight to ten weeks apart to achieve optimal aesthetic results.

Radiance Spa Medical Group also offers the unique DualSculpting™ option, which allows for the use of two machines to simultaneously treat two different areas of the body, helping to cut overall treatment time in half. Dr. Lehfeldt says multiple treatments are typically necessary to address concerns in different areas or repeat areas of the body, adding that DualSculpting™ is ideal for many of his patients who maintain busy schedules. Treatment time is about an hour per area.

Ultimately, Dr. Lehfeldt says CoolSculpting® has years of clinical follow-up with hundreds of thousands of satisfied patients treated throughout the world. Additionally, he notes that research suggests the treatment may also provide some skin tightening along with fat reduction. “The bottom line,” he says, “is CoolSculpting® really works.”
