ULTHERAPY – A Nonsurgical Skin Tightening Treatment

On behalf of Teleos Plastic Surgery & Radiance MedSpa, please enjoy this informational article written by Jennifer Ellis, Registered Nurse, Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Ultherapy BnAAs we age, the collagen in our skin weakens and elastin starts to break down, causing our skin to become more lax and loose.  Look to Ultherapy – focused ultrasound – to address these problems.

Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved NON-surgical and completely NON-invasive treatment to tighten AND lift the skin above the brow, on the mid-face, neck, and under the chin.  It also has received FDA-clearance in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles to the chest area.

Ultherapy is a one-time treatment for most patients (takes about an hour), using focused ultrasound to activate our fibroblast cells to create new collagen, resulting in a gradual, natural reduction of skin laxity pver a 6 month timeframe.  Ultrasound is a tried and true technology that has been safely used in medicine for over 50 years.  Ultherapy results typically lasts around 1 1/2 – 2 years, at which time another treatment would be recommended to maintain results and help slow down the rate of skin aging.

There are options with the Ultherapy treatment as well; one can do a full face, neck and chest treatment in one session, or a partial treatment to address specific areas of concern.  Specific issues addressed include lowered eyebrows and mild hooding of the eyelids.  In clinical studies, 89% of subjects had a significant brow lift after one Ultherapy treatment.  Also, mid-face issues such as downturned mouth, jowling, and loss of jaw line definition can be addressed, as well as neck firming and tightening including the submental, or “turkey neck” area under the chin.  Most recently, Ultherapy has been FDA-approved to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to the décolletage or chest area.

There are minimal side effects with Ultherapy including temporary redness, swelling, tingling, tenderness and rarely bruising or welting.  Most of these side effects fade in a matter of hours.  Please feel free to make an appointment with us for a complimentary consultation so we can discuss your treatment options to address your specific concerns.
